Mane Pulling and Braiding
Megan and Kaley learned at a very young age not to cut a horse's mane. Both coming starting out in the hunter/jumpers, it was instilled in them from their trainers. The proper way to shorten a mane is to "pull" it. This is a very tedious job for many but I actually love to do it! The advantages of proper mane pulling is that you receive a natural look, you are also thinning out a mane if it is thick, and it makes it easier to braid or band. We offer this service for those who anticipate pulling a mane. Patience is very important when pulling a mane, especially when working with a green horse.
We will pull a horse's mane if needed before braiding unless the horse already has a very thin mane.
Professional quality braiding comes from practice and lots of it. It takes a lot of patience on both the braider and the horse's part as well. Braiding improves the appearance of your horse. A well turned out horse will get the judge's attention immediately and make a good impression. We currently offer hunter style braids for the mane, jumper knots, running braids, and lanyards. If there are any special requests, please ask. We will always research and practice if you are looking to achieve something unique. We have all yarn colors to match mane colors.
Megan has been focusing a lot on the young horses this past year, working with the babies of the hunter breeding ring. Colts, fillies, yearlings, two and three year olds. She gives them the patience they need to get comfortable and make it a positive and enjoyable experience. She was even invited to Devon to braid some of the babies on the line this year. If you have a baby, let her know! They are welcomed for braiding!
Our signature for my braids is a "lucky" braid. This can either be a different color yarn in a braid or two, a few beads, or colored braids for the whole mane! You get to pick your color. Kids love this and gets them involved. As you can see, Jag's color in the pictures is pink! Of course this is optional, please let us know if you would like something "colorful" done.
If the horse receives a bath prior to braiding I would like to request that you don't put anything in to make the mane slippery, like Cowboy Magic, Show Sheen, etc. Thank you!
